Are you facing these issues?

Exploitative work conditions

Are you in a sticky situation and unsure of the help you need? Call or text us to make an appointment, and find out how Project X can support you.

You should not be subjected to forced labor, human trafficking, or any form of coercion. You have the right to work voluntarily and without fear of exploitation.

Harassment and Assault

You may face situations where you’re at risk of sexual harassment or assault from
customers, supervisors, or coworkers due to the nature of the job, potentially exposing you to unwelcome advances and unsafe circumstances.

You have the rights to a safe and healthy workplace. This includes protection from physical, mental, and sexual harassment or abuse. Employers should take measures to ensure their safety and well-being.

Seeking Legal Protection

You may have uncertainties about whether the issues you have encountered warrant legal protection. You may also fear how law enforcement would handle your situation, be concerned about the cost of legal fees, or worry about potential victimization.

You should have the opportunity and adequate support to pursue legal action if your rights are infringed upon as well as to seek justice without concerns about facing retaliation.

Stigma and Discrimination

The profession of performing artiste or bar hostess can carry social stigma, resulting in discrimination and negative judgments from others. This, in turn, may affect your personal lives and overall mental wellbeing to some extent.

You should have access to social services, including healthcare and support for any physical or mental health needs. This includes access to healthcare providers and resources for regular check-ups and screenings.

Executive Director
[email protected]

Vanessa has been full-time with Project X since 2011, and as a result, has had many opportunities to meet and connect with sex workers in Singapore and around the world. Under her leadership, the organisation has grown from a small group of volunteers to one where there are three paid staff and a team of over 60 volunteers. Correspondingly, she has increased the annual operating budget of the organization five times, and is now recognized as the leading organization that empowers and assists women in the sex industry.

Vanessa has written and spoken extensively about sex work, human trafficking, rape culture, and LGBTQ rights in Singapore. She believes that if people can speak about sex, gender and sexuality in open and in non-judgmental ways, society will become a safer place for everyone.

Vanessa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Warwick, and a Masters Degree in Gender, Society and Representation from University College London.
