Vanessa has been full-time with Project X since 2011, and as a result, has had many opportunities to meet and connect with sex workers in Singapore and around the world. Under her leadership, the organisation has grown from a small group of volunteers to one where there are three paid staff and a team of over 60 volunteers. Correspondingly, she has increased the annual operating budget of the organization five times, and is now recognized as the leading organization that empowers and assists women in the sex industry.

Vanessa has written and spoken extensively about sex work, human trafficking, rape culture, and LGBTQ rights in Singapore. She believes that if people can speak about sex, gender and sexuality in open and in non-judgmental ways, society will become a safer place for everyone.

Vanessa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Warwick, and a Masters Degree in Gender, Society and Representation from University College London.

Wany is a Singaporean transgender woman who has been with Project X since 2014. She currently helps to run our peer-run sexual health community center in town, as well as does outreach at various locations. Her job requires her to interact and socialize a lot and thus, she has made plenty of acquaintances and friends within the sex industry and the like. As she has vast experience in the industry, she is able to and frequently does provide lifesaving advice to sex workers.

She for one, consistently reminds the ladies and guys to practice safer sex at all times, emphasizing on the importance of going for regular check-ups. She believes sex work is work and that no one should be coerced, marginalized and penalized. She also strongly believes in human rights and relentlessly advocates it.

Nor is a nonbinary person who is the latest addition to the Project X team. They handle administration for our key programmes and services, facilitate support group sessions and ensure that our drop-in centre is conducive for healing and connecting with others.

Nor firmly believes in self-determination and interdependence, both of which are values that align with the work that Project X does.

Kheng Leng is a Registered Social Worker with the Singapore Association of Social Workers. Prior to joining Project X, she worked extensively with youths-at-risk and on issues of intergenerational poverty in Singapore. She is experienced in pioneering innovative social services such as setting up a Collective Impact initiative to support the lower-income families at Spoooner Road and operationalising the first boarding campus for lower-income families at Spooner Road and operationalising the first boarding campus for lower-income youths at =Dreams.

Kheng Leng firmly believes that every person deserves to live their potential. She hopes to develop the social work services at Project X and provide our community with right resources and opportunities at whatever stage of their lives.

Kheng Leng holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Highest Distinction) from the National University of Singapore.

Tracy Lijing has been a full-time staff with Project X since November 2023. Currently, Tracy facilitates sexual health outreach in multiple red light districts as a Programme Executive.

Prior to Project X, Tracy conducted sexual health outreach for more than 10 years at the former Women’s Care Centre in Geylang.

Tracy finds joy in her role as she is able to give back to her own community by giving them access to sexual health and legal aid. She also enjoys a good can of Coke Zero on a hot day

Sherry Sherqueshaa

Sherry is a Singaporean transgender woman and our staff since September 2014. She’s in charge of organizing community events, documenting human rights issues, attending regional conferences, as well as community outreach to sex workers.

Sherry feels that it is important to do advocacy work because when she first started doing sex work, she had zero knowledge of her rights as a sex worker and a transgender woman. Upon discovering Project X, it has made a big difference in her life as knowing her rights means knowing what to do when something unexpected happens such as violence from her clients. After witnessing the positive changes educating sex workers of their rights, and advocating for their equal treatment, it drives her further to explore all possibilities to address their concern as she doesn’t see who else will be doing it if not herself.
